Overview Swap Bodies BDF
A swap body (also referred to as a demountable body) is an interchangeable cargo unit that can easily be separated from the carrier vehicle. This is comparable to a shipping container, but differs from it due to different dimensions and a less heavy construction. They are widely used for the intermodal transport of all kinds of goods, resulting in a wide variety of different versions.
Most swap bodies have twistlock attachment points at the same dimensions as a (20') ISO container. This enables transport on units designed for shipping containers.
To be able to use the swap bodies in combined transport (transshipment from truck to train and vice versa), there must be gripping points on the underside for special grapple arms with which the entire unit can be lifted (UIC 592-4).
There are also a large number of variants that also have twistlock attachment points at the top, by which the unit can be lifted.
