Container Sales - Background Information

Before the containers were invented, it was labourintensive to load and discharge vessels. Goods were delivered to shed or warehouse, either loose or palletized, where some of these cargoes were stored in open air, under influence of all weather conditions. The rainy conditions loading or discharge of a vessel was delayed, to minimize damage to cargoes.

Using containers led to a total different process. Goods were loaded at the premisses of the suppliers or shippers, and were delivered to the terminals where the containers ensured that weather had no influence of the cargo, or even on the loading/discharging process of the vessels, thus avoiding delays. For shippinglines, this means shorter time spent in the port.

Containers are being bought by shippinglines or leasingcompanies and these containers will reach their economical end-value, after which they will be sold off. This is the time that we buy the containers from their owners, and bring the containers upto standard, via our repairdepots. The condition of the equipment is being ascertained at these depots, and we decide there and then if the units are acceptable for one-way traffic or other purposes, such as storage.

Tankcontainer

Tankcontainers are the product which need most attention. The cargo being stored or transported in the tankcontainer detemines which type of tankcontainer is suitable.

We always ask our customers to provide as much information as possible, with MSDS to ascertain the right tankcontainertype to offer. Based on the data provided in the MSDS, we can look up in specialist databases which type is suitable.

Special Containers

Containers, which need special attention are being hauled to specialist depots. Amongst these are reefer- and tankcontainer. The engines of reefercontainers are checked separately from the body and repaired upto standard.
